An incidental finding of Eimeria ooscysts does not mean much in otherwise healthy animals. Also known as coccidia, these protozoan intestinal parasites are almost universally present in poultry operations, but clinical disease uncommon unless susceptible birds ingest large amounts of sporulated oocysts.

Many species. Lesions of 2 are pathognomonic: E. necatrix ""see blood-filled small intestine w/ small white spots on serosal surface. E. tenella -see blood in cecum, hemorrhagic droppings progressing to cecal cores (accumulated blood, debris, and coccidial oocysts).

Treatment is sulfas (water), tetracyclines (feed) or amprolium (water). Control w/ anti-coccidials (ie: ionophores, amprolium, chlortetracycline) in feed.
